Success Mantra#14-Turn everything into positive

Hello Friends,

I am putting up before you few things straight. I would like you to learn from real-world situations.

Many of you have attended events about MPSC and UPSC exams. Many of you have sought guidance from others, regarding these exams. Right?

Have you noticed something? Take a look at this: “Nothing is possible without hard work and dedication.”

Have you heard this in any of those events or from the people whom you have sought guidance?

Please re-read this again and again and try to understand what advice it gives you: “Nothing is possible without hard work and dedication.”

Well, it conveys the message that without doing any hard work and without dedication nothing is possible. Right?

My dear friend, do you understand that if you accept it as a “truth”, as a “fact” then actually it is trying to engrave “negativity” on your mind, permanently!!!

In my view, it should be something like this: “Everything is possible with hard work and dedication.”

You got it now?

Yes, it says, you can achieve everything with your hard work and dedication. It results in development of a positive attitude. It builds up your confidence, without you even knowing it.

Likewise, you should always watch what you say to yourself and others regarding your exam preparation. Many of you might have been saying some of these sentences:

  1. “I am doing my level best. Fingers crossed.”
  2. “I am trying hard to study, let’s see.”
  3. “I will try to clear MPSC this time.”
  4. “If I do not clear this time, I will try again.”
  5. “Am not sure about clearing MPSC, but I will make a serious attempt.”
  6. “I have completed the entire syllabus but don’t know what will happen.”
  7. “Am confident about clearing this time but can’t say.”
  8. “There is too much competition for MPSC/UPSC but let’s try.”
  9. “I will do better this time but its about luck after all.”

If you take a closure look at the sentences above, you will notice a bit of negativity in them. Some of these sentences are factual but they have negativity, too.

Let’s analyse each of these sentences.

Sentence#1: “I am doing my level best, fingers crossed.“:

Analysis: “Fingers crossed” in the sentence depicts unsurity of the success even after one is doing one’s level best to succeed.

Advice: Never use negativity in sentences. This sentence should have been like this: “I am doing my level best and am confident of my success in the exam”.

Sentence#2“I am trying hard to study, let’s see.”

Analysis: In the above sentence, use of the “trying” word displays that the person is trying to study as if he/she is not able to do it. “let’s see” shows negativity (unsure of the completion of study or outcome of the result).

Advice: Never use “try” word in sentence. This sentence should have been like this: “I am studying well and I am sure of the positive result”.

Sentence#3“I will try to clear MPSC this time.”

Analysis: In the above sentence, use of the “try” word displays that the person is not sure whether he/she can clear the exam in this attempt.

Advice: Never use “try” word in sentence. This sentence should have been like this: “I am sure that I will clear MPSC this time”.

Sentence#4: “If I do not clear this time, I will try again.”

Analysis: The above sentence is completely negative as if he/she has already accepted the failure (this time) and will keep trying next time (when will come the “next” time?).

Advice: Never use negativity in any of your sentences. This sentence should have been like this: “I am confident about clearing MPSC this time”.

Sentence#5: “Am not sure about clearing MPSC, but I will make a serious attempt.”

Analysis: The first part of the above sentence itself conveys that he/she has partially accepted the failure.

Advice: Never use negative words like “not” and “but” in any of your sentences. This sentence should have been like this: “I am sure about clearing MPSC as I am preparing whole-heartedly for this exam”.

Sentence#6: “I have completed the entire syllabus but don’t know what will happen.”

Analysis: The above sentence displays uncertainty of the result.

Advice: Never use negative words like “don’t know”, etc. in any of your sentences. This sentence should have been like this: “I will definitely clear MPSC as I have already completed entire syllabus”.

Sentence#7: “Am confident about clearing this time but can’t say.”

Analysis: He/she is confident about the positive result of the exam then the last part of the sentence overpowers the confidence and reduces it as if he/she has partially accepted the failure.

Advice: Never use negative words like “but” in any of your sentences. This sentence should have been like this: “I am confident about clearing MPSC”.

Sentence#8: “There is too much competition for MPSC/UPSC but let’s try.”

Analysis: The entire sentence itself conveys that he/she has already accepted the failure.

Advice: Never use negative words like “but” and “try” in any of your sentences. This sentence should have been like this: “Even if there is too much competition for MPSC/UPSC, am going to clear it in this attempt itself”.

Sentence#9: “I will do better this time but its about luck after all.”

Analysis: The last part of the above sentence itself conveys that he/she has partially accepted the failure by believing in luck.

Advice: Never use negative words like “but” in any of your sentences. This sentence should have been like this: “I will do better this time and will come out successfully”.

Dear friends, all you need to do is remember your goal of achieving success in MPSC/UPSC exam(s). You should always think positive while preparing for the exam (at the time of your study). Be happy during the study.  Feel happiness at all times.

By all means, you should convert the negativity into positive feelings. This will definitely help in memory retention and increasing your confidence.

Get ready for Rajyaseva Prelims 2019

Congratulations Vinesh Phogat

Congratulations Vinesh Phogat !!!

You are the 1st Indian woman wrestler to win a gold medal at the Asian Games. You did this by beating Yuki Irie of Japan in the final of the women’s wrestling at the Asian Games 2018, today i.e. 20 Aug 2018. You have shown a mettle that every Indian woman possesses.

Your mettle, what to say, wow!!!  You created history !!!

Your first bout today was against China’s Sun, with whom you had suffered the heart-breaking leg injury during the Rio Olympics. You did not fear this time. You did not give your opponent any chance and you beat her today with a 8-2 score.

In your next bout you beat Korea’s Hyungjoo Kim by technical superiority.

And then after semifinals came the final..and you became the 1st Indian woman wrestler to win a gold medal at the Asian Games.

What a show of courage !!!

Congratulations, once again Vinesh Phogat!!!

I am very proud of you.

Success Mantra #11- How to solve question papers- Rajyaseva Prelims 2018

Hi Friends

Here are last minute tips for you.

How to solve question papers- Rajyaseva Prelims 2018

Be positive, think positive. Remember, a cool mind can give you 100% success, so never lose your patience. If you get panicky then you will lose precious time. Relax.

What to wear, carry, etc:

§  Black Ball Pen – 02

§  Wrist Watch (make sure it is working perfectly). It must have second hand that shows seconds.

§  Hall Ticket

§  A good pair of socks (cleaned properly. No need to buy new pair)

§  A very good set of clothes. (If you wear decent clothes, your confidence will be on the higher side)

§  If you wear spectacles (eyeglasses), make sure they are in perfect condition.

§  Well polished shoes or good pair of Chappals.

§  No medicine of any type.

On 8th Apr 2018:

§  Make sure that you got everything with you from the above list.

§  Star early from your home to avoid traffic jam etc.

§  After reaching the exam center, check your exam Hall and find out where is your Seat Number.

§  Check for Toilet and go get yourself freshen up just before the exam. Remember, you will not be allowed to come out of exam hall.

§  In the exam hall, check your chair, if it is broken, get it replaced; otherwise you may not be able to concentrate on your paper.

§  Remove your wrist watch on the table so that you can have a look at it while answering the questions.

§  Check your Answer Sheet and read all instructions. If you are not able to understand anything, ask your examiner. Fill-up required information.

§  Quickly read the entire question paper when you are asked to open it. Check for printing mistakes, if any. This MUST be done in 5 minutes.

§  Start answering the question paper.

§  Do not get panicked if you find some questions difficult. As you already know that you are not gifted to understand each and everything. This is same with every one so do not get angry, either. Leave the most difficult questions and move on.

§  After paper is finished, YOU HAVE TO WRITE ON THE ANSWERSHEET, how many questions you have solved.

For GS Paper I:

§  Do not spend more than 40 seconds on one question at a time. The breakup of the time for entire duration is as follows:

§  100 questions – 120 minutes

§  5 min – initial reading  (11 AM to 11:05 AM)

§  100 min for 100 questions = 6000 seconds for 100 questions i.e. 60 seconds (1 minute) but utilize 45 secs for answering each question in the first round. You can make 2nd round using 15 secs for unanswered question. Leave very difficult question and move to next. (11:05 AM to 12:45 PM)

§  15 min – revision round – answer difficult  questions (12:45 PM to 1 PM)

§  Answer easy question first so that you gain confidence.

§  If you are doubtful about correct answer then try to eliminate 2 wrong options and then arrive at 100% correct answer between remaining 2 options. Both may seem to be right answers but you need to choose the BEST suitable answer.

§  Keep your eye on the wrist watch so that you monitor the seconds.

§  If you cannot answer a question in 45 seconds, leave it for next round. You can answer it in the last 15 minutes

§  After you have completed entire question paper within the 100 minutes, make another round of the remaining questions and try to answer them. Remember that you must answer all questions within this time i.e. (11:05 AM to 12:45 PM).

§  If you find that you cannot answer them, just leave them unanswered. Remember that wrong answers can draw penalty. For 1 wrong answer, 0.33% mark will be deducted; so be careful.

§  When you have used up the 100 minutes, i. e. at 12:45 pm, start revising your entire question paper from question number 1 till the last question. Check for the unanswered questions and try to answer them if you know the most correct answer. Do not answer it if you are unable to arrive at the right answer. This is to avoid the negative marking.

§  Stop writing exactly when the examiner warns you.

 For GS Paper II (CSAT):

§  Do not spend more than 40 seconds on one question at a time. The breakup of the time for entire duration is as follows:

§  80 questions – 120 minutes

§  5 min – initial reading  (3:00 PM to 03:05 PM)

§  100 min for 80 questions = 6000 seconds for 80 questions i.e. 1 minute 15 seconds per question but utilize 50 secs for answering each question in the first round. You can make 2nd round using 25 secs for unanswered questions. Leave very difficult question and move to next. (3:05 PM to 04:45 PM)

§  15 min – revision round – answer difficult  questions (04:45 PM to 5 PM)

(03:05 AM to 04:45 PM).

§  If you find that you cannot answer them, just leave them unanswered. Remember that wrong answers can draw penalty. For 1 wrong answer, 0.33% mark will be deducted; so be careful.

§  When you have used up the 100 minutes, i. e. at 04:45 pm, start revising your entire question paper from question number 1 till the last question. Check for the unanswered questions and try to answer them if you know the most correct answer. Do not answer it if you are unable to arrive at the right answer. This is to avoid the negative marking.

§  Stop writing exactly when the examiner warns you.

§  After paper is finished, YOU HAVE TO WRITE ON THE ANSWERSHEET, how many questions you have solved.

During exam, if you feel tensed or sleepy then do this:

§  Stretch your legs and hands downwards and release them after 2 seconds. Do this 2 times.

§  Take deep breaths (inhale and then release it out after 2 seconds). Do this multiple times.

§  Think positively and do not get stressed by any means. Try to concentrate on the question rather than worrying about it.

 Good luck to you !
